hmm, lets see here...

xbox 360, wii: console sold cheap with less features, but with features sold seprately.. a good marketing choice.

so it took sony 3 years to finally realize, that by cutting the fat, and selling that fat seperate from a now low cost console would be a better marketing choice? hmmm, that is suprising...

seems sonys been doing alot better after these threats from game dev's...

but its good to see sony maturing.

A bit of a rip off if you ask me, you can get a 250gb hard drive for around £30 and convert your 80gb, so the seperate selling price is around £315 (ps3 around £285 + hard drive £30) so for an extra £85 i would expect a lot of games bundled and an extra controller. Will sony bundle 3 games with it? probably not, it's just a way of squeezing more money out of us, stick with the 80gb or the 40gb if you can get one cheap enough and converti it yourself!

Indeed the appeal of GTA 4 is certainly universal, but perhaps that is because of the history of the franchise. The anticipation amongst gamers of 'a certain age' seemed disproportionate to how good you could possibly expect a game to be. Thankfully Rockstar know their subject matter well enough to deliver the final product that everybody was expecting, and given that it was available on both the PS3 and the XBOX 360 it is difficult for either camp to bash the other simply for the sake of it. Haze on the other hand is a PS3 exclusive and has no history other than some manufactured hype and an intriguing attempt to bring social conscience to a genre where it really doesn't belong, so we could expect some 'haters' to appear along the way.

Having said that, Gamespot have reviewed Haze now and have delivered a fairly average 6/10 criticising the games poor AI and bad storytelling. So I guess therein lies the truth If you are going to hype up a game make sure its a good one

Very true, OPM not reviewing it prior to release was something of a red flag, though the complete lack of "incoming game" coverage for Haze immediately before release was worrying, since the last big release, GTAIV, had plenty of it, ironically GTA seems to have succeeded for all the reasons Haze didn't, it had an adult plot tied to what could be considered childish gameplay of sandbox exploration and action, while Haze has a childish and simple plot tied to the usually adult (not always) gameplay of FPS action.

Though in truth you can't call either game or genre adult, both ideally should be entertaining for engaging the player in the action of exploring/fighting and in gameplay terms that comes down to immersion in basic instincts/adrenalin rush and isn't too cerebral ordinarily. I don't know, maybe the market is just tired of linear shooters and is starting to really enjoy sandbox action w/ meaningful plot because you can outright avoid the story (or play around the edges) if you don't like it.

Disappointing to say the least. But lets be honest when OPM didn't get the scoop a week before the game was due to be release something has to smell bad.
