Well here we have it the news we’ve all been waiting for. A number of online stores have been dropping hints about an upcoming redesign for the PS3 Console and finally amazon look to have spilled the beans good and proper. There seems to have been a massive PR push around this game and expectations have been very high. Apparently however, Little Big Planet is a game that has lived up to hype, providing hours of absorbing fun and the ability for you to test out your creative skill with a clever level designer built in. Personally I don’t see what all the fuss is about but hey ho there you go..

So we’ve all got excited recently over the PS3s improved hard disk size, what with the 80GB PS3 being launched in August and with the news that the a 160GB PS3 is due sometime soon, but why these sudden increases in disk space? After all none of the other Specs have changed, the processor is still the same, the bodywork looks as broodingly black as ever, the games are pretty much the same… so why do we need more hard drive space. 160GB PS3 Coming Coming Soon

No sooner do we get all excited about the newly launched 80GB PS3 than Sony go once better with confirmation that a 160GB Model is set to be launched in Europe this Autumn. Provisionally pencilled in for a 31st August Release date the 160GB Sku will have the same features as the 80gb model, just the larger hard drive and will ship with Some downloadable content pre-installed. Priced at around 499 Euros (so roughly £395!) this model aint cheap, in fact you are paying almost £100 for the privilege of an extra 60GB of Disc space, lets hope the extra content justifies the extra cost.

80GB Playstation 3 Coming in August

As this Summer’s E3 conference in the states gains momentum, and after Sony came under heavy criticism for the state of quality games actually available on their flagship games console. They have rallied somewhat with an announcement that might well bury the PS3 lite rumours once and for all. It has been confirmed that August 27th will see the release of an 80GB PS3. Officially retiring the 40GB version of the console in Europe. It seems thats all we get though. The price point will be the same as the 40GB, so roughly £299, but it will still not be backwardly compatible with PS2 games and it would seem wont include any more advanced architecture, but hey its 80GB not 40GB so its better than nothing.

Update: The Console will be release on August 22nd and will include the DualShock 3 Controller. You can buy it now for only £289.97 from Tesco or check out other 80gb ps3 bundles here.

PS3 Lagging behind Xbox 360 in UK

Sales of the Playstation 3 are lagging behind those of the XBOX 360 by as much as 18% this month. Apparantly the Sales of the 360 surged with the release of GTA 4 last month. Even worse, GTA 4 may have sold over 1.3 million copies in the UK but the split favours the XBOX 360 again with a total of 57% (or 750,000 copies) of sales being attributed to the XBOX 360 console, compared to 43% (around 570,000 copies) on the PS3.

However, all is not lost. Looking at the total year to date, sales of PlayStation 3 in the UK are 10 per cent ahead of Xbox 360. Prior to the launch of GTA IV, the PS3 boasted a 20 per cent lead on 360, so the gap is narrowing.

Haze is due any minute now, so where are the reviews?

Haze has been coming to the PS3 for nigh on eternity, having slipped from its scheduled release last year (nothing new there I suppose, any game worth its salt misses its initial release date these days), but with the game actually due to hit the shelves on the 23rd May there seems to be a very surprising lack of reviews around for it. Not even this months Official Playstation Magazine carries a review, now why is this? Is it really not as good as we all hoped it would be? Well the demo certainly looks fast and furious and I’ll be buying it on the strength of that alone, not to mention Free Radical’s pedigree in the FPS arena with the Timesplitters frachise (love it or hate).

At present, according to Ubisoft themselves there are 2 reviews published:

Haze has been first reviewed by Famitsu and PSM Italy. The game received 34/40 in the famous Japanese magazine and stroke an astonishing 9/10 in PSM.

The game release is closing on quickly now, Haze will be available in stores on May 23rd. It’s time to fight the good fight

However I cant speak Japanese or Italian so I’ll have to take their word for it.

Are Sony Fanning the Flames of PS3 Slim & Lite Rumours?

According to engadget, SONY is on the verge of a break even point for Playstation 3 with the introduction of a smaller cell processor and rsx chips later this year. A move that Sony would like to see sooner rather than later because they are currently losing money on every PS3 they sell. Analysts suggest that consoles using these chips could hit the shelves in November and, guess what, a PS3 Featuring smaller technology on the inside may easily give way to the new look slimmed down PS3 we’ve already heard about… Watch this space.
