PS3 DualShock 3 Controller

6 April 2008 No Comment

The most anticipated piece of PS3 hardware this year has to be the DualShock 3 controller and it finally became available for sale in the states for a rather pricey $55. Whats so good about it, you may ask? Well this is the controller that should have been released with the Playstation 3 when it was launched and it features the mandatory RUMBLE, or force feedback or whatever its called these days.

Basically the Controller vibrates in your hand to match the intensity of your gaming environment. Something that works very well in the Wireless Xbox 360 controllers. Sad to report then that initial reviews of the controller are less than favourable:

Considering the rumble is the only possible reason you’d pick up the DualShock 3, it’s pretty underwhelming. Compared to the Xbox 360’s rumble, which feels like a miniature horse bucking its way in the palm of your hands, the DualShock 3 feels more like a slightly agitated cockroach that’s had one too many mochas. You can feel it, sure but in games like Resistance you really should feel like you’re blasting away with a machine gun, instead of feeling like your cell phone just went off in your hands. I’d say the rumble is on par with the Wiimote’s rumble, which is to say, pretty forgettable

Back to the drawing board then Sony.
